Ireland’s first formal Visa Waiver Programme

Government of Ireland has formally endorsed the proposal made by the Minister of Justice according to  which since 1 July 2011 the citizens of some States, holding a visa to the UK, will be also able to visit Ireland, without arranging a visa to this country.

New program aims to increase the number of tourists visiting this island nation, whose economy has still not recovered after the 2008 financial crisis. Innovation affected the citizens of 14 countries, including Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Previously, all they needed to a ordinal visa to visit Ireland, since the State is not part of the Schengen area.

Since the July 2011 and up to October 2012 new rules will operate in pilot mode, with the Irish in particular rely on visitors 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
